Wildlife illustration by Matthew SoffeI am a Carnforth-based artist with a love for all things furry and feathered.
In the 90s I studied graphic design at university in the Midlands, and now teach art part time at a college near Preston. When not doing that, I am drawing or painting (or occasionally sleeping). My preferred medium is ink – I use Japanese brush pens for an expressive, organic line, with thinned washes of black acrylic for extra tone. This format also lends itself very well to fur and feathers. My black and white drawings are then scanned and tinted and/or coloured in Photoshop. I don’t just want to draw animals – I am passionate about capturing their individual personalities too. |
